Quality and quantity helped the Saskatchewan Sheep Breeders Association to its best Canadian Western Agribition sale ever, according to organizers.
Kim MacDougall, an Agribition board member and SSBA president, said a large consignment from Ontario breeders pushed up the numbers and enhanced the quality of the sale.
“Normally there are some weak animals in the sale, but everything sold this year,” he said. “We’re just tickled.”
The 69 lots grossed $30,670 and averaged $444.49.
The high seller was Sierra 3X, a purebred ram consigned by Sierra Viola of Russell, Man., which sold to Steve Hutt of Beaubier, Sask., for $825.

Trade war may create Canadian economic opportunities
Canada’s current tariff woes could open chances for long-term economic growth and a stronger Canadian economy, consultant says — It’s happened before.
MacDougall said the market is strong, which was reflected in the sale.
“The market is as good as it’s ever been right now,” he said. “We’re almost in danger of them being too expensive at the top end.”
However, there was a wide range of prices, which allowed most potential buyers to make purchases.
Wins in the show ring were also widely spread.
