The chorus calling for assistance for livestock producers grew louder last week when the leaders of three prairie farm organizations chimed in.
The presidents of Wild Rose Agricultural Producers, Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan and Keystone Agricultural Producers said the federal and provincial governments must shed their wait-and-see attitudes.
“Livestock producers are very concerned that they’ve been left out,” said APAS president Greg Marshall.
The Excess Moisture Program announced earlier this year provided $30 per unseeded acre for flooded crop and forage land. But livestock producers say they were unable to use some of their pastures because of flooding, and some hay crops couldn’t be harvested.
Now, an early severe snowstorm has prevented some from baling straw.
Governments have said they were waiting for harvest to end to assess the situation.
