Limousin tops bull sale

A Limousin bull had the highest selling price at this year’s Pride of the Prairies Lloydminster Bull Show and Sale held March 7-8.

It was owned by Payne Livestock of Lloydminster and bought by Stoney Creek Cattle Co., of Lloydminster, Sask., for $6,100.

Sale numbers fell to 148 bulls this year from 169 last year. No Gelbvieh bulls were entered this year.

Gross receipts were $431,900, down from last year’s $490,950, but the average sale price was up to $2,918 from $2905.03.

Results by breed

  • 32 Black Angus grossed $94,400 and averaged $2,950
  • 11 Red Angus grossed $28,300 and averaged $2,573
  • 29 Charlolais grossed $89,800 and averaged $3097
  • 43 Simmental grossed $123,600 and averaged $2874
  • Six Limousin grossed $18,000 and averaged $3,000
  • 14 Polled Hereford grossed $38,200 and averaged $2729
  • 13 Horned Hereford grossed $39,600 and averaged $3046
