Twenty-five foals sold in the 10th annual draft horse classic held Nov. 22 at Canadian Western Agribition in Regina.

The high seller went for $7,750.

Tom Lane of Birtle, Man., bought his own horse, a Belgian stallion named Creek Side Voo-Doo, to top the sale.

The foals are eligible to return after training as two year olds to compete for the purse accumulated during the sale.

Several consignors bought their own foals to retain ownership for potential futurity payouts.

This year, the winner of the futurity was Ju-Ly Ige, a Percheron stallion owned and exhibited by Gord Ruzicka of Rose Hill Percherons at Viking, Alta., and bred by Lyle Brown of Lenore, Man.

The horse earned $7,352 for the win. Ruzicka bought it at the 2008 sale for $6,600.

The sale prices on the 25 horses this year totalled $73,650 and averaged $2,946, down $275 from last year’s average.
