Two men from the Outlook, Sask., area have been charged after nearly 300 cattle were seized from their property last March.

Wayne Robinson, 53, and Barrett Robinson, 26, both face two counts under the Criminal Code for causing unnecessary suffering to cattle.

The pair will appear in Outlook provincial court Oct. 8.

Outlook RCMP sgt. Darcy Woolfitt said the Saskatchewan SPCA conducted an investigation and forwarded the results to the RCMP, which in turn forwarded the information to the crown prosecutor for review.

He would not comment further since the charges are now before the court.

Neighbours told The Western Producer earlier this year that problems began in July 2008 when cattle in the Robinsons’ care began wandering into fields and yards looking for food.

Through the winter, neighbours began noticing more coyotes in the area and dead cattle along the road.

After the problem was reported the Saskatchewan SPCA seized 288 distressed animals.

Ten animals had to be destroyed during the seizure and another 14 were euthanized at a feedlot.

One observer also said there were 307 dead cattle in a field.
