One element of the former Ropin’ the Web internet site will soon be revived by the Alberta Forage Industry Network under a new name.
Farming the Web is expected to serve as a replacement to the general store portion of Ropin’ the Web, which was shut down by Alberta Agriculture last summer. That move prompted concerns from many farmers and several agricultural service boards in the province over the loss of a valuable service for agriculture sales listings.
The general store feature, under the new Farming the Web name, is expected to be launched this summer, said AFIN treasurer Nora Paulovich.

Alberta Agriculture minister Devin Dreeshen said one-time funding of $355,000 will be provided to AFIN to set up the new service.
“This is best suited for the private sector,” said Dreeshen. “Government was better not to be offering that service and the private sector would be best suited for it. It took us awhile to find a trustworthy suitable replacement to be able to host it and that’s why we’re happy … with the announcement that the Alberta Forage Industry Network … will be able to take that on.”
Dreeshen said farmers and ranchers talked to him about the loss of the service at just about every meeting he had last year.
