Western Tractor, a two-year-old company that comprises four southern Alberta John Deere dealerships, turned sod Oct. 12 for a new facility at Taber, Alta.
Scheduled for completion next fall, the 40,000 sq. foot dealership will include new equipment sales, a service area, centralized parts stocking and a 40-seat training facility.
John Deere and Western Tractor officials were on hand at the corner of Highways 3 and 36, west of Taber, bracing their feet against gusty west winds as a backhoe dug into the 12-acre site.
Western Tractor is the new entity formed with the combined assets from Green Power and McKay Brothers. Green Power had dealerships in Taber, Burdett and Medicine Hat, and McKay Brothers was in Lethbridge. The dealerships continue to operate under the new name.
Western Tractor president and general manager Steven Dyck said he expects Western Tractor to grow through further acquisitions in the next few years, but it will remain privately held rather than publicly traded.
