Most high stream flow advisories in southern Alberta have ended as river and creek levels gradually recede following last week’s rainfall. However, more rain is in the forecast later this week.

Alberta Environment said yesterday that there is a long-term forecast of 60 to 100 millimetres of rain in central and southern Alberta from tomorrow to June 17. That will cause creek and river levels to rise again.

The department issued a new high stream flow advisory midday yesterday for the St. Mary River downstream of St. Mary Dam. Similar advisories remain on the Waterton River above the Waterton Dam and the Belly River.

A high stream flow advisory means that water levels are expected to rise rapidly and minor flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

All other advisories on various regional waterways have ended.
