Viterra has officially opened another new inland grain terminal in Western Canada, this one at Kindersley, Sask.

Viterra owned another elevator in Kindersley, but that facility was sold to Richardson International in 2013 by Viterra’s parent company, Glencore, along with 18 other country elevators across the West.

“Our return to Kindersley is a great example of Viterra’s commitment to creating and maintaining an industry leading asset network that is modern and efficient,” said Kyle Jeworski, president and chief executive officer for Viterra’s North American operations.

“In Saskatchewan alone, we’ve invested millions of dollars at several locations in recent years to support our unwavering focus on operational excellence and superior customer service.”

Field-by-field mapping could improve yield, productivity predictions

University of Saskatchewan researchers are using field border mapping to collect data on field variability, including problematic weeds, and to predict things like yields.

The Kindersley facility will have 28,000 tonnes of grain storage and loading capacity for 108 rail cars.

It is serviced by Canadian National Railway.

“Although we now have a global presence, we still recognize the importance of our prairie roots, and the values and lessons we have learned from our farmers,” said Jeworski.

“We’ve put together a great team at Kindersley that I’m confident will continue Viterra’s tradition of excellence in west-central Saskatchewan.”

Viterra hosted a grand opening event June 7 at its new Kindersley terminal. Customers, employees and local government officials attended the event.
