CHICAGO, Sept 2 (Reuters) – Robust U.S. corn and soybean harvests are expected despite excessive rains early in the growing season that raised concerns about final production totals, according to a poll conducted by commodity brokerage and analysis firm Allendale Inc.

Average corn yields are estimated at 167.1 bushels per acre, with total production coming in at 13.548 billion bushels, according to the results of the poll. Soybean yields were pegged at 45.4 bushels per acre, with total production forecast at 3.791 billion bushels.

If realized, they would be the second-highest U.S. yields ever for both corn and soybeans.

Allendale surveyed farmers in 28 states between August 17 and August 28 for the poll, which was released on Wednesday.

The U.S. Agriculture Department projected an average corn yield of 168.8 bushels per acre and an average soybean yield of 46.9 bushels per acre in its August crop production report. It also forecast corn production at 13.686 billion bushels and soybean production at 3.916 billion bushels.

The government will update its harvest projections on Sept. 11.
