U.S. biodiesel output fell to 70 million gallons in January: EIA

CHICAGO (Reuters) — U.S. biodiesel production fell to 70 million gallons in January, down from 135 million gallons from a month earlier, the U.S. Energy Information Administration said in a report on Wednesday.

Soybean oil remained the largest biodiesel feedstock, with 241 million lbs used in January, or about 45 percent of the total. In December, soyoil used in biodiesel production was 559 million lbs.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has projected that 5.2 billion lbs of soybean oil will be used for biodiesel production in the 2013-14 marketing year that began Oct. 1.
