Seeding has begun in southwestern and west-central Saskatchewan, according to the agriculture ministry’s first crop report of the year.

However, many fields are still too wet, and more warm, windy weather is needed before seeding can start. Localized flooding is still causing problems in several areas around the province.

Cropland topsoil moisture is rated as 40 percent surplus, 58 percent adequate and two percent short. Hay land and pasture topsoil moisture is rated 28 percent surplus, 68 percent adequate and four percent short.
