The Rural Municipality of Brittannia has been fined $77,000 after being found guilty of unlawfully altering a sewage lagoon.

The RM was charged under Saskatchewan’s Environmental Management and Protection Act and water regulations for doing the work without obtaining a permit and for not immediately reporting a sewage works problem.

The environment ministry inspected construction activity on a broken sewer line in the hamlet of Greenstreet in October 2009, which led to the charges.
