WASHINGTON (Reuters) — The Senate Agriculture Committee will meet on May 7 to consider issues related to implementation of the 2014 farm bill, Senator Debbie Stabenow, the committee’s chairwoman, said on Wednesday.

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will testify at the hearing, the first examination by the committee of how the sprawling 10-year legislation is working since the bill was passed in February.

The bill expanded crop insurance for U.S farmers and created new subsidies for rice and peanut growers, while trimming food stamps to more than one million recipients.
