Mayo Schmidt has resigned from his position on Agrium Inc.’s board of directors.
Calgary-based Agrium announced that Schmidt would be resigning effective today as a result of his recently accepted role as chief executive officer of Louis Dreyfus Commodities.
“Since joining our board, Mayo has been a respected director and added valuable industry and governance insight,” said Victor Zaleschuk, board chair of Agrium.
“We wish him great success in his new leadership role.”
Schmidt is the former CEO of Viterra, which he led through a corporate takeover by Glencore, a Swiss mega-company involved in mining and global commodities trading.
Schmidt assumed a board position with Agrium soon after the Viterra takeover.
Agrium is a major producer and distributor of fertilizer and other agricultural products and services in North America, South America and Australia.
