Seventeen wildfires are burning in Saskatchewan’s north May 9.
Officials said all were caused by human activity and urged people to be careful as the fire risk remains high even though cooler weather and some rain have eased concerns somewhat.
There have been 137 fires so far this year, compared to 96 at this time last year.
The Fort McMurray fire is about 30 kilometres from the Saskatchewan border and another smaller fire is about 15 km away; the closest community is about 50 km from the fires.
Officials had no estimate on when the fires might merge or reach the provincial boundary.
