The first session of Saskatchewan’s new Legislative Assembly is expected to begin May 17.

Premier Brad Wall said the session will begin with a throne speech that afternoon. The budget is expected June 1.

“Obviously, the budget will be tight as we work to keep our provincial finances strong and get back to a balanced budget by 2017,” Wall said.

The legislative agenda will include privatization of 40 government-owned liquor stores and the addition of 12 new private liquor stores.

The Legislative building itself will be the focus of a public ceremony the day before the assembly begins. The dome has been under wraps for nearly two years, undergoing restoration at a cost of more than $20 million.
