Saskatchewan crop insurance customers will pay higher premiums for better coverage this year.
Agriculture minister Bob Bjornerud unveiled the 2011 program today.
The average coverage level is rising from $131 per acre to $173 per acre because commodity prices have risen 20 percent from last year.
Average producer premiums are going up from $6.98 per acre to $8.45 per acre.
The unseeded acreage benefit is rising from $50 to $70 per eligible acre, and improvements were also made to the forage insurance program.
Forage producers can now provide verified individual yield records to establish coverage rather than using area averages.
Bjornerud said he hoped improvements would encourage more producers to participate in crop insurance, particularly given what happened last year.
The corporation paid out nearly $700 million in claims in 2010.
