Saskatchewan Green Party leader Larissa Shasko has stepped down and thrown her support behind the NDP’s Regina South candidate, Yens Pedersen.

She and Pedersen met with reporters Sept. 6 at the Regina Legislature. Her decision is effective immediately.

Shasko said she is still a Green Party member and hasn’t yet decided whether she will buy an NDP membership.

However, she said the party she led is not the best vehicle to achieve a “sustainable, ecological future” for the province.

Shasko will work for Pedersen in the campaign leading up to the Nov. 7 vote. She had been nominated to run in Moose Jaw North.

She announced her decision the day federal Green Party leader Elizabeth May was in Saskatoon and area.
