A dozen agricultural agencies, boards and commissions have been stricken from the Saskatchewan government’s list.

A total of 82, or nearly 25 percent, of government entities in several departments were eliminated. The move is expected to save about $500,000 per year.

Deputy premier Ken Krawetz said some of the boards hadn’t met in years.

Among the agricultural casualties are the Agri-Food Innovation Fund, which wound up earlier this year and the Agri-Food Equity Fund Investment Review Committee, which isn’t needed because the fund no longer makes investments.

Other boards eliminated include the Beef Industry Advisory Committee, Crown Land Stakeholders’ Forum, Farm Leaders Advisory Group, Farm Stress Line Advisory Group, Farm Support Review Committee, Livestock Inspection Services Advisory Board, Livestock Traceability Committee, Producer Advisory Committee for feeder and breeder associations and the livestock loan guarantee program, and the Provincial Patrons Advisory Committee for community pastures.
