The Saskatchewan government confirmed today it will continue the Emergency Flood Damage Reduction Program implemented two years ago.

The program shares the cost of permanent and temporary flood works and provides engineering and technical assistance for municipalities that want to undertake flood protection.

Individuals are reimbursed 85 percent of approved costs for permanent works, while municipalities and businesses get 75 percent back. Eligible projects include berms, culverts and life station work.

Temporary works are reimbursed 50 percent. This includes the purchase of sand for sandbags and water pumping.

The full cost of engineering assistance and the purchase of sandbags is also covered.

Since 2011 the program has paid $25 million for 580 permanent flood protection projects across the province.

The Water Security Agency must approve the projects to make them eligible for funding. More information can be obtained at www.wsask.ca or by calling 866-727-5420.
