Saskatchewan will continue its ethanol grant program until a comprehensive review of it is completed in 2012.In the most recent budget, the government had said it would harmonize the program with new federal programming, but during consultation discovered this might result in less market access for small ethanol producers. The EGP provides 15 cents per litre for the first 25 million litres to companies that blend ethanol with gasoline. The proposed changes would have seen that cut to nine cents for companies that produce up to 25 million litres and six cents for amounts above that.Instead, Enterprise Saskatchewan minister Jeremy Harrison announced Sept. 3 the existing program will continue while a legislative review is done. The grant will provide about $23 million this year to the ethanol industry.
