A homegrown Saskatchewan business has received national attention after a successful bid in the Dragon’s Den.

Natasha and Elysia Vandenhurk convinced Arlene Dickinson, a marketing and communications expert, to invest $150,000 in exchange for a 20 percent stake in Three Farmers, a camelina oil producing company.

Natasha said they got what they were looking for from the Dragon’s Den: national exposure for their product and a deal with Dickinson, who has the knowledge and contacts that will help the company expand.

“Having a mentor like Arlene is invaluable,” Natasha said. “When I first started out, I had other mentors I could draw upon, but having someone as experienced and well know as Arlene is definitely going to help the company.”

Camelina is a winter annual oilseed crop that is seeded late in the fall to help control winter annual weeds. It sometimes germinates in the fall if there is enough moisture and heat, or it germinates as soon as the ground thaws in the spring.
