Saskatchewan premier Brad Wall has changed his cabinet after Russ Marchuk stepped down as education minister.

The Regina MLA told the premier earlier this week he no longer wanted the lead role as minister. However, he is staying on as legislative secretary to the new minister.

That will be Saskatoon MLA Don Morgan, who has been serving as minister of labour and of advanced education. Morgan will retain the labour portfolio but give up advanced education to Rob Norris, also from Saskatoon. Norris previously served as minister of that portfolio.

“The demands of a cabinet position are onerous, especially in a large portfolio like education,” Marchuk said in a news release.

“While I fully support the direction our government is taking in education, our government’s education agenda is entering a crucial period that will require significant resources that I feel I am not able to provide at this time.”
