The Saskatchewan government will provide the provincial bus company with $13.6 million this year.
This includes $10.3 million in operating funding and a capital grant of $3.3 million and compares to an operating grant of $9.2 million and capital grant of $2.3 million recorded in the 2012 annual report.
Saskatchewan Transportation Co. cut several routes effective Jan. 1 due to low ridership. This includes Regina to Lanigan, Eastend to Swift Current and Swift Current to Mossbank.
Last May, the Blaine Lake to North Battleford route was discontinued.
STC said these routes averaged two or fewer passengers each trip in the last five years.
However, those cuts are only expected to save about $300,000 per year.
In a news release issued Jan. 20, STC said it will continue to promote ridership and express parcel service “that positively impact revenues.”
