Saskatchewan rural municipalities learned today that they will receive $23.5 million for road and bridge projects this year.

Provincial highways minister Jim Reiter announced the expenditure ahead of the March 23 provincial budget so that municipalities can begin planning.

The funding, through the Municipal Roads for the Economy Program, is focused on primary weight truck haul routes that connect to the provincial highway system and repairing and replacing bridges and culverts.

The Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities administers the program.

Grants funded work on more than 280 kilometres of roads and almost 70 bridges and culverts last year.
