After 19 years in provincial politics, Saskatchewan’s deputy premier and finance minister says he will not seek re-election.
Ken Krawetz, the MLA for Canora-Pelly since 1995, announced his decision April 28.
Nomination meetings are underway across the province in advance of the next general election, which is expected in April 2016.
Krawetz is a former teacher and business owner who also served as a school trustee for 10 years before his election as a Liberal MLA in 1995.
In opposition he served in several critic portfolios and was among the four Liberals and four Progressive Conservative MLAs who formed the Saskatchewan Party in 1997.
He was opposition leader from 1997 to 1999.
When the Saskatchewan Party won government in 2007, he became education minister and deputy premier, and in 2010 he took over the finance ministry.
Krawetz said now that is wife has retired it’s time for him to retire as well.
