UPDATE: 12:05 p.m. – April 11, 2013 – Environmental officials are now saying all the oil has stayed on the highway and that none has entered the lake.
Saskatchewan Environment officials are expected to provide an update later this morning after a B-train tanker truck rolled on the causeway over Buffalo Pound Lake north of Moose Jaw yesterday, spilling used oil and closing Highway 2.
Moose Jaw RCMP said the road was icy when the accident happened about 11 p.m. The highway between Moose Jaw and Chamberlain was still closed as of 10 a.m. today.
Saskatchewan Environment staff are cleaning up the spill on the causeway. It is unknown how much oil spilled on the lake, which is the source of drinking water for about one-quarter of the province, including Regina and Moose Jaw.
However, the intake for the water supply is about 19 kilometres from the causeway.
