A recent break in at the Neilburg Veterinary Clinic in Neilburg, Sask., has left Sharon Sawtell perplexed about the incident.

“Normally the drugs that are targeted are the ones that have a street value or can be used by weightlifters,” said the veterinarian.

“Our clinic doesn’t carry any of those.”

Sawtell discovered a front window broken and an open front door of the mixed animal clinic on the morning of March 9.

Small animal medications and vaccinations were stolen along with a small quantity of cash and small empty bottles used to hold medications.

Canadian crop outlook has improved since January says FCC

Canadian farmers’ overall new crop outlook has improved since the beginning of the year, says Farm Credit Canada.

“We do wonder if they were just looking for bottles instead of the actual medication,” she said.

Sawtell said the Neilburg area has experienced other break-ins recently.

“I guess I wasn’t surprised, but you wonder what damage has been done and what’s been taken,” she said.

“That’s your initial thought.”

There are no suspects, but the investigation continues, said RCMP sgt. Heath Robinson of the Cut Knife, Sask., detachment.

“It’s your classic break and enter where some things were rummaged through and several items taken, likely through opportunity,” he said.

“It’s kind of a similar MO (modus operandi) to pharmacies, in the sense that they break into pharmacies for certain reasons. I don’t think a vet clinic would be much different.”

Cut Knife RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance with the break and enter, which occurred during the weekend of March 6-9.

Information can be directed to the detachment at 306-398-3500 or anonymously by calling Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
