Gordon Cove has been named the new president and chief executive officer of the Alberta Livestock and Meat Agency.

The Alberta government formed the agency in attempts to boost struggling livestock sectors by targeting money for specific projects outlined as priorities under the Alberta Livestock and Meat Strategy (ALMS).

The government announced funding in mid-September for 30 projects worth more than $3 million.

Cove previously helped develop and implement the ALMS.

Cove had worked for Alberta Agriculture since 2003 and moved to ALMA this year.

In the private sector, he worked for 21 years in management roles with Olymel/Premium Brands Inc. (formerly Fletcher’s Fine Foods Ltd.) in Red Deer.
