Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan will hire 600 more employees over the next five years as part of its pledge to the province in the wake of the BHP Billiton takeover attempt.

CEO Bill Doyle said Feb. 14 the corporation will hire about 100 more at its Saskatoon head office by the end of 2013. Eleven of 14 senior executives will be working in Saskatoon by the end of March, up from six. The executives had been criticized for spending most of their time in Chicago.

And, 2,528 people will be working in PotashCorp mines by 2015, up from 2,016 in 2010.

Other promises include an ongoing commitment to potash marketer Canpotex, development of an aboriginal workforce, more contributions to charity, including the Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service air ambulance program, local purchasing, and a $5.7 billion mine expansion.

About half of the expansion cost will be spent at Rocanville, in eastern Saskatchewan.
