Canpotex has signed two new marketing agreements with Indian companies while on a trade mission with Saskatchewan premier Brad Wall.

Coromandel International Ltd. and Tata Chemicals Ltd. will each buy millions of tonnes of the province’s potash over the next few years. Canpotex also signed enhanced market development agreements with them, and with Indian Potash Ltd.

Canpotex supplies about 25 percent of India’s potash needs. India is the fourth largest offshore market for Saskatchewan’s potash producers.

The three companies involved in the new agreements are long-time customers and were recognized for their patronage during the mission.

Coromandel and Indian Potash have each bought three million tonnes, while Tata was honoured for buying four million tonnes.

Wall’s trip, which concludes Nov. 23, also involved the opening of a soil testing lab, which will provide free service to local farmers, a sugar cane demonstration plot showcasing the use of potash fertilizer and the official opening Nov. 21 of Agro Tech 2014 in Chandigar.

Saskatchewan tops all other provinces in exports to India at $1 billion in 2013.
