Five Saskatchewan livestock groups will govern a new non-profit corporation to manage brand inspection in the province.

Livestock Services of Saskatchewan will take over responsibility for brand inspection from the provincial government Jan. 1.

The Saskatchewan Cattlemen’s Association, the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association, the Saskatchewan Cattle Feeders Association, the Saskatchewan Horse Federation and Livestock Marketers of Saskatchewan own and operate LSS.

Ministry staff who currently work in brand inspection will move to the new organization. Provincial legislation will continue to be in place.

Saskatchewan was the only province that still offered brand inspection through the government.
