New crop November canola gains $10 on week

A big jump in soy oil prices helped lift most canola futures higher Friday, allowing the May contract to post a $3.20 gain on the week.
Most-traded May closed at $469.30 a tonne, up 0.7 percent on the week.
March, which is in its delivery period, closed at $461.30, down $8.80 on the week.
But new crop November closed at $458.60, up $10 on the week, or 2.2 percent
Basis bids appear to be improving in some locations. The best crushing plant basis bids are in Manitoba.
The soy oil market was strong today as traders exited their soymeal/soyoil spread positions on the last trading day of the month, Reuters reported

March soyoil broke through its 100-day moving average, hitting a five-week top, after fewer-than-expected deliveries were posted against the expiring contract overnight.
The continuing truckers protest in Brazil also supported oilseeds. A number of the road blockades were called off as police began fining and arresting the protestors, but 59 roads remained blocked.
Dozens of hog and poultry slaughter plants have been forced to temporarily close.
The second most important soy shipping port of Paranagua has supply to continue loading ships until March 4. The third soybean port Rio Grande might run out of soybeans on the weekend, Reuters reported.
The protests are causing fuel shortages in agricultural areas, threatening the soy and corn harvest.
The truckers are protesting high diesel costs and other issues.
For the week, the front-month CBOT soybean contract rose 2.9 percent, its fourth straight week of gains. CBOT soymeal rose 1.5 and CBOT soyoil rose 4.3 percent.
CBOT soybeans rose seven percent in February, while soyoil gained 9.4 percent and soymeal rose 6.9 percent.
Wheat rose today on bargain buying and ideas that another cold snap could cause damage to wheat fields not covered by snow.
Large parts of Nebraska do not have snow and temperatures got down to -15 C over night and are forecast to fall to -18 C on Tuesday but the latter cold snap will also have snow.
For the month, CBOT March wheat rose 2.9 percent, while K.C. March wheat fell one percent.
MGEX March spring wheat was nearly unchanged in February.
Corn on Friday rose with support from wheat and as investors exited short positions on the last trading day of the week and month.
Light crude oil nearby futures in New York were up $1.59 to US$49.76 per barrel.
The Canadian dollar at noon was US79.95 cents, down from US80.06 cents the previous trading day. The U.S. dollar at noon was C$1.2508.
The Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX composite index closed down 6.82 points, or 0.04 percent, at 15,234.34.
On the week, the TSX composite rose 0.4 percent and on the month it rose 3.8 percent.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 81.33 points on the day, or 0.45 percent, to 18,133.09.
The S&P 500 lost 6.25 points, or 0.3 percent, to 2,104.49 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 24.36 points, or 0.49 percent, to 4,963.53.
The Dow rose 5.6 percent in the month, its best monthly performance since January 2013.
The S&P 500 gained 5.5 percent for the month, while the Nasdaq rose 7.1 percent,
