The Saskatchewan government says it has paid out most of the flood claims from 2010 and 2011.

In today’s question period, the NDP opposition asked why it was taking so long to pay claims from those floods, considering that another flood could be on the way this spring.

Environment minister Ken Cheveldayoff said the government continues to work on finalizing the claims.

“Ninety-six percent of the 2010 claims have been closed through PDAP,” he told the legislature, referring to the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program.

“Eighty-two percent of the 2011 claims have been closed by PDAP, Mr. Speaker.”

The government has estimated the costs of flooding during those two years at more than $360 million.
