The South Saskatchewan River Irrigation District No. 1 in Outlook, Sask., was fined $49,000 recently, as a result of a drowning incident in 2012.

According to documents obtained from Saskatoon provincial court, Dale Hermanson fell and drowned while doing his job Aug. 27, 2012.

After an Occupational Health and Safety investigation the irrigation agency “failed to identify the risks arising from the conditions and circumstances of the worker’s work.” This included Hermanson working alone at the scene.

The irrigation district pleaded guilty to the charges in Outlook provincial court, March 13.
