Informa sees U.S. soy plantings at 87.2 million acres, tops USDA forecast

CHICAGO (Reuters) — Informa Economics projected U.S. 2015 soybean plantings at 87.185 million acres, a potential record high more than 2.5 million acres above the U.S. Agriculture Department’s current 2015 forecast, the private analytics firm said Thursday in a note to clients.

Informa put U.S. 2015 corn plantings at 88.737 million acres, slightly below USDA’s forecast, issued in March, of 89.199 million.

The firm projected U.S. plantings of spring wheat other than durum at 13.219 million acres, above USDA’s March forecast of 12.969 million, and durum wheat plantings at 1.977 million acres, up from USDA’s figure of 1.647 million. Informa estimated U.S. all-wheat plantings at 55.947 million acres, compared to USDA’s figure of 55.367 million.

Informa estimated U.S. 2015 sorghum plantings at 8.315 million acres, above USDA’s March forecast of 7.9 million. The firm put U.S. 2015 all-cotton plantings at 9.334 million acres, below USDA’s figure of 9.549 million.

USDA is scheduled to update its planted acreage figures on June 30.
