CHICAGO (Reuters) — Private analytics firm Informa Economics cut its 2014 forecast for U.S. corn plantings to 93.029 million acres from 93.319 million, trade sources said on Tuesday.
Informa also trimmed its soybean plantings estimate to 81.204 million acres from 81.264 million.
Acreage for spring wheat other than durum was seen at 12.298 million acres, up 200,000 acres from its earlier estimate. Informa left its durum acreage forecast unchanged at 1.808 million acres and raised its winter wheat acreage view to 42.542 million from 41.892 million.
The forecasts were based mostly on surveys conducted in mid March.
Informa officials had no comment on the figures.
The U.S. Agriculture Department will update its forecast for plantings on March 31. In February, the USDA said it expected 2014 soybean acreage to be 79.5 million and corn acreage to be 92.0 million.
