REGINA – As much as 50 millimetres of heavy rain closed roads and ferries in Saskatchewan yesterday, including the Trans-Canada Highway in the southwestern corner of the province.The following advisories were issued at 9 a.m. today:* Local detour at the Tantallon access.* Highway 1 from Highway 21 junction to Alberta border, closed due to flooding.* Highway 21 from Maple Creek to Cypress Park access, closed due to flooding.

Motorists travelling west on Highway 1 toward the Alberta border will be detoured north onto Highway 21 and will need to travel north to Kindersley, and west again on Highway 7 to cross the border. This extensive detour is necessary due to flooding problems with Alberta Highway 41, which intersects several east-west highways heading into Alberta.Commercial vehicles are being stopped at the Swift Current weigh scale and advised of options.Message boards, signage and flag people are in place between Highway 21 and the Alberta border to guide traffic.Alberta Transportation will be setting up a detour for eastbound traffic coming into Saskatchewan.* Highway 271 from Maple Creek to Fort Walsh, closed due to flooding.* Lancer Ferry closed due to high water.* Highway 229 closed 200 metres west of the junction of highways 9 and 229 due to water crossing the highway. Detour in place. * Highway 15 has water on road 13 kilometres west of Nokomis. Reduced speed required. Drive with caution. Flag people in place.* Highway 365 has water on road in the area of Manitou Beach. Traffic restricted to lane and a half. Reduced speed required. Drive with caution.* Highway 310 may see reduced travel at times in the Fishing Lake area due to wave action from adjacent high water levels. Reduced speed required. Drive with caution.* PCS Cory Mine access is under construction. Watch reduced speeds and men and equipment working adjacent to Highway 7. * Highway 2 was to be temporarily closed yesterday about three km north of Cudworth because of a culvert replacement and is expected to reopen today. Local traffic can use a 12 km detour on nearby grid roads, while truckers and motorist are advised to use alternate routes, such as highways 20 and 41. * The Paynton Ferry will be closed as of 7 a.m. June 15 due to high water.More rain is forecast for the province today.
