The Ontario government has committed another $150,000 in support of HayEast 2012.

The new funding will help extend the program until June 1.

It will cover transportation costs from Western Canada to help Ontario farmers affected by severe drought last year obtain the hay they need for their livestock.

“We are proud to be part of the strong tradition of co-operation that exists in Canadian agriculture — among farmers, suppliers and government,” said Ontario premier and agriculture minister Kathleen Wynne in announcing the money.

Ontario Federation of Agriculture president Mark Wales said the announcement would “ease the minds” of many farmers who still need feed.

Private donations to the campaign can still be made at any Scotiabank branch across Canada.
