Ducks Unlimited Canada is looking for the people who work hardest to conserve wetlands.

“There are many people in Saskatchewan who recognize the many values of wetlands and are working tirelessly to conserve them,” said Ducks Unlimited Canada president Jack H. Hole. “We want to publicly thank these dedicated people and showcase their efforts.”

The Lieutenant Governor’s Greenwing Conservation Award recognizes people that have contributed to the public awareness of wetland conservation through leadership in a project or activity.

Examples include an organization working to restore a wetland, groups cleaning up a wetland area or a volunteer increasing awareness of the value of wetlands to communities.

“Wetlands play an important role in a healthy environment, from providing critical habitat for the continent’s waterfowl populations to helping filter the water we drink,” Hole said.

The nomination deadline is Oct. 16, 2009.
