Tractors, farm and road equipment and volunteer firefighters were at work today putting out a grass fire threatening the hamlet of Kronau, Sask., about 25 kilometres southeast of Regina.

Some residents and businesses evacuated as a precaution, concerned about oil tankers parked on the nearby rail line.

However, RCMP said they attended the scene only briefly.

Witnesses said the fire burned for at least 10 km and was being fanned by strong winds. By 1 p.m. it had moved away from the hamlet and the rail line.
