Former cattle leader dies

Former Canadian Cattlemen’s Association president Neil Jahnke has died.

Jahnke, 70, was president of the CCA during the BSE crisis in 2003. At the same time, his wife Marilyn, was president of the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association. He was also an SSGA past-president.

His involvement in the industry spanned decades. He was chair of the Canada Beef Export Federation, on the board of many organizations including the Saskatchewan Livestock Association and Canadian Western Agribition, and a staunch defender of the industry.

The Jahnkes ranched at Gouldtown, Sask. ,where Jahnke died Nov. 26.
