Saskatchewan’s Water Security Agency is increasing outflow from Gardiner Dam during the next few days.

The flow on the South Saskatchewan River will rise from 370 cubic metres per second to 800 cubic metres per second and cause the water level downstream of the dam on Lake Diefenbaker to rise by about 1.4 metres.

The higher flow should be maintained through May but isn’t expected to cause any out-of-bank flooding.

The releases are necessary because of the above normal snow pack in the mountains and above average lake levels for this time of year.

The agency said that the lake will be lowered by 0.8 metres to make room for any above normal rainfall in June.

Water levels on the river downstream of the Codette and Tobin reservoirs will rise about .5 metres above normal as a result of the releases.
