Saskatchewan’s environment ministry has banned all open fires in the Centre and West blocks of Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park due to extremely dry conditions.

All burning permits in the area have been suspended until the ministry reinstates them.

Several roads have also been closed to help fire suppression efforts. These include all roads and trails in the West Block except for the Battle Creek Road from the Alberta border east to Highway 271, the Highlands, Trans Canada and Native Prairie Interpretive trails in the Centre Block.

Also in the Centre Block, the west boundary road from Gap Road to Bald Butte Road and all fire guard roads including Boy Scout Road are closed.

Campers can still use self-contained heating devices, pressurized stoves or charcoal briquettes in approved fireboxes.
