Fertilizer company fined over work injury

Rack Petroleum Ltd. of Biggar, Sask., has been fined $19,600 after pleading guilty to a charge under provincial occupational health and safety legislation.

A worker at the fertilizer company was seriously injured April 21, 2010, after his arm was caught in a conveyor belt pulley.

The company was charged with failure to ensure that a safeguard on the pulley remained in place at all times.

Five additional charges were stayed.
