Precision agriculture firm Farmer’s Edge has bought Lethbridge based GranDuke Geomatics Ltd., a company that has developed software based on geospatial technology.
The deal was officially announced Feb. 24 but had been final since Jan. 9. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Farmer’s Edge operates in North and South America, Australia, Russia and Eastern Europe. It provides precision agriculture tools and advice to farmers.
One of its services, called Precision Solutions, includes variable rate technology and weather monitoring.
“Fertilizer and yield maps provided by GranDuke Geomatics Ltd. are part of the Precision Solutions product line offering growers an increase in efficiency through automated work flows, specialized software design and cloud-based data processing,” said the news release about the deal.
GranDuke was founded in 2012, with assistance from the National Research Council. It developed customized software using geospatial data that is used for farming, environmental monitoring and oil and gas applications.
