Store-packaged chicken wings distributed at Safeway stores in five provinces are being recalled due to risk of staphylococcus bacteria.

No illnesses have been reported as a result of anyone who has eaten the recalled wings.

Party Pack Hot Salt N Pepper, PPK hot wings mix, and hot and cold Pinty’s Salt and Pepper packaged wings are the products involved, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

The recall was issued Aug. 15 on the wings, which have been distributed in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, British Columbia and Ontario.

Canadian crop outlook has improved since January says FCC

Canadian farmers’ overall new crop outlook has improved since the beginning of the year, says Farm Credit Canada.

It applies to wings that were sold up to Aug. 14. A listing of the UPC codes for the affected products are available on the CFIA website.

The products subject to recall should not be consumed. They should be discarded or returned to the store where they were purchased, the CFIA said.

Food contaminated with staph bacteria may not look or smell spoiled but the toxin produced by the bacteria is not easily killed during cooking.

Common symptoms of staph poisoning include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps and fever. In severe cases, it can also involve headache, muscle cramps and changes in blood pressure.
