Dry and vulnerable U.S. winter wheat areas helped push wheat up over 13 cents per bushel on an otherwise unexciting day in the crop futures markets.
Winter wheat crops are coming out of dormancy after a dry winter, which left little protective snow cover.
Most crop futures were slightly lower on signs of export weakness, but with wheat the questions about the potential of the winter wheat crop trumped demand concerns.
Canola managed to eke out a small gain, rising $1.40 per tonne for May futures to $460.70, and up $1.30 to $456.60 for July.

In market news that many would consider odd, Coca-Cola is reported by the Associated Press as having worked with nutrition and diet experts to promote Coke as a snack. The soft drink giant has promoted mini-cans of Coke as an alternative to the regular-sized cans, which in many dieticians and others eyes seem like obesity-in-a-can.
The company has worked with numerous “consultants,” some it has hired or paid, to improve the image of the quintessentially American beverage.
Light crude oil nearby futures in New York were down 96 cents to US$43.88 per barrel.
The Canadian dollar at noon was US78.34 cents, up from US78.11 cents the previous trading day. The U.S. dollar at noon was C$1.2765.
The Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX composite index closed up 131.26 points, or 0.89 percent, at 14,862.76.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 228.11 points, or 1.29 percent, to 17,977.42, the S&P 500 gained 27.79 points, or 1.35 percent, to 2,081.19 and the Nasdaq Composite added 57.75 points, or 1.19 percent, to 4,929.51.
