Canola futures down with other crops on good weather

Investment funds continued to unwind their long positions in crop markets as favourable weather throughout most of North America is encouraging good crop growth.
Old crop canola closed at $473.20 down $6.80 or 1.42 percent.
New crop November fell $5.70 to $485.20 of 1.16 percent.
The loonie rose, adding downward pressure on canola.
Chicago soybeans and corn were both down more than one percent.
Storms tracking across the Midwest the last two days have delivered needed moisture and more rain is in the forecast.

Canada lifts several import tariffs on U.S. goods as talks continue

Starting September 1, Canada will adjust its tariffs on agricultural products, consumer goods and machinery, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced at a press conference in Ottawa on Friday.

In Western Canada, the dry area of northeastern Saskatchewan should get strong accumulations of rain as a cooler system rolls through on Saturday. Rain is also expected in central Saskatchewan and Manitoba and other areas could get showers with lighter accumulations.
The Saskatchewan government crop report said crops in the province were generally in great shape and were advancing ahead of the normal pace.
Wheat continued under pressure from the advancing U.S. winter wheat harvest. Kansas wheat futures fell to a 10-year low.
The large yields in winter wheat are hurting protein levels and spreads are increasing.
Britain is voting today on whether to leave the European Union. Some last minute opinion polls indicate that the stay side will win, and that helped support today’s gain in the loonie, but the vote is expected to be very tight.
Light crude oil nearby futures in New York were up 98 cents to US$50.11 per barrel.
The Canadian dollar at noon was US78.42 cents, up from 78.00 cents the previous trading day. The U.S. dollar at noon was C$1.2752.
Bay Street and Wall Street bet that Britain will stay in the EU.
The Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX composite index closed up 127.57 points, or 0.91 percent, at 14,131.38.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 230.24 points, or 1.29 percent, to 18,011.07, the S&P 500 gained 27.87 points, or 1.34 percent, to 2,113.32 and the Nasdaq Composite added 76.72 points, or 1.59 percent, to 4,910.04.
